Ismail Sabri Pasha

Ismail Sabri Pasha (Arabic: إسماعيل صبري باشا, d.1923) was an Egyptian poet and statesman. He contributed to the emergence of a national consciousness in his country. He was honored with the title of Shayh al-Şu'arâ, that is, the Master of Poets.[1]

Life[edit]

Ismail Sabri was born on February 16, 1854, in Cairo. In his youth, he had the opportunity to receive guidance on poetry at home. It is understood that the young poet chose Mahmud Sami al-Barudi as his model. He was sent to France by Khedive Ismail Pasha to study law. When he returned to Egypt, he worked in various courts of his country. He died on March 16, 1923.[2]
