Itapevi (CPTM)
Itapevi is a train station, belonging to ViaMobilidade Line 8-Diamond, located in the municipality of Itapevi, Brazil.[1]
History
The station was opened by the Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana on July 1, 1888, under the name Cotia (since Itapevi was a district of Cotia until 1959).[2] Like Osasco, Carapicuíba, Barueri, and Jandira, Itapevi station was the building that gave rise to the municipality of the same name.[1]
In 1888, the station was a small platform, but it was later replaced by the EFS with a building that met the growing demand of the time.[1]
During the rectification and duplication of the line in 1926, a new station was built. In the 1950s, Sorocabana began a project to modernize its suburban train lines and rebuilt the station (renamed Itapevi in 1945).[1]
In January 2020, the Itapevi City Hall began work to improve the surrounding area and improve accessibility at the station. Scheduled for completion in January 2021, the improvements will include wheelchair elevators, escalators, fixed stairs, and a new suspended walkway connecting the station to the new Carlos de Castro Square on the south side, eliminating the need to cross the SP-29 highway (Roselândia Road).[3]
On April 20, 2021, the ViaMobilidade consortium, composed of the companies CCR (now Motiva) and RUASinvest, was awarded a thirty-year concession to operate the line. The concession contract was signed, and the line was transferred on January 27, 2022.[4]
