Jason Chavez
Jason Cruz Chavez is an American politician who is a member-elect of the Minneapolis City Council from the 9th ward.
Early life and education[edit]
Chavez was raised in Minneapolis. His parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico to escape from impoverished conditions and violence.[1] Chavez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work and organizational behavior from the College of St. Scholastica, where he was elected student body president.[2][3]
Career[edit]
Jason worked in the Minnesota House of Representatives as the legislative aide of State Representatives Mohamud Noor and John Thompson.[4]
In 2021, Jason will replace the retiring Alondra Cano on the Minneapolis City Council.[5] Chavez is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, who also endorsed him, and was one of three members who won their City Council races in 2021.[6][7]
