Jenő Hódi is the founder and managing director of the Budapest Film Academy; he is an American-Hungarian, multiple award-winning director, writer and producer.

Biography[edit]

Born and raised in Hungary, Jeno Hodi migrated to the United States in 1982. Having studied with directors Milos Forman, Brian De Palma, John Avildsen and Dusan Makavejev, he received his Master's Degree in writing and directing from Columbia University and was the first student in its history to write, direct and produce a 35mm feature film while studying in its graduate film program.

Throughout his career, Jeno’s role as a filmmaker has extended into all areas of production. In addition to selling sixteen screenplays, he has directed and produced several feature films, a variety of commercials, television pilots, and stage plays.

As a filmmaker, he is proud of the fact that most actors he has worked with consider him an "actor's director."[This quote needs a citation] He has had years of training with some of the finest acting teachers including Milton Katselas' master class, Stella Adler and the Actors Studio where he is a member of the writers/directors unit.

For his last movie, he received two Best Director Awards in Spain and in Italy.

His US company, CinePartners Entertainment, combines North American financing with European private and public funding, as well as tax-based financing. CinePartners has worked with actors such as Will Smith, Steve Martin, Christopher Lambert, Mira Sorvino, Gabriel Byrne, John Goodman, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Patrick Bergin, Sean Young, Robert Förster, Alan Alda, Sally Kirkland and others. CinePartners movies have been distributed by Trimark, UIC[disambiguation needed], Showtime, Hallmark, Artisan, Nu Image, Distant Horizon and Artist View Entertainment. The company has also worked on TV projects with broadcasters such as CBS, NBC and Fox.

Upon his return to Hungary, Jeno realized that there is a real need for a film academy which teaches the study of film as a business, and gives a comprehensive training of the entire film profession. Hence, along with the Eötvös Loránd University, he founded the Budapest Film Academy (BFA). From the fall of 2016, they are providing study abroad courses for Los Angeles-based Loyola Marymount University (LMU) as well. As part of the cooperation, LMU teachers are giving special screenwriting courses at BFA.
