Jimin was born as Park Jimin on October 13, 1995 in Busan, South Gyeongsang Province, Republic of Korea. His grandfather chose his name, which means "my wisdom will be higher than the sky". Before their debut, Jimin was the last member added so his time as a trainee was the least at less than a year. [5] In an interview, Jimin said "names like Baby J and Kid were some options [for his stage name] but [he] decided that Jimin was the best". [6] Some of the nicknames he has gained are Mochi, Chim Chim, and Jiminie.

On June 13, 2013, Jimin made his debut as a member of BTS on Mnet's M Countdown with the track "No More Dream" from their debut single album, 2 Cool 4 Skool.
