Jorge Rocchi
Jorge Daniel Rocchi (born September 3, 1952) is an Argentine architect and urban planner, known for designing some of the most significant buildings and other major works in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires and the Province of Buenos Aires. Known for Specktra Megadisco [1][2], the largest nightclub in the region, located in the city of Pergamino and Cascanueces Discotheque [3] (Nutcracker Discotheque) located in Los Toldos.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]
Specktra Mega Disco
Its inauguration in 1985 made it a prominent icon in the Buenos Aires region. During the 1990s, it was the busiest nightclub in the area. The architect of this impressive project created a versatile, rationalist prismatic volume with high-tech details. It features a concrete structure formed by interconnected triangles, reflective glass, steel, and metal. The club comprises three dance floors, a large central dance area, a danceable courtyard, a pool (operational during summer), and a radio station.
The first stage, with its double-triangle facade, opened in 1985. In 1993, a second stage was added, extending the disco with three large spiral ramps connecting the three levels around a main stage. [12]Modifications and renovations also included restoring the green spaces of the courtyard. A third part, called Puebla, was added, featuring a large metallic tent with triangular columns, a DJ tower with a circular steel disc, and bridges over small lakes.
The club operated successfully until 2006; following years saw frequent changes in ownership and limited use for private or New Year's Eve events.
Specktra "A true giant in the night scene, with a strong electronic music tradition, offering space for more than 7,000 people (one of the largest nightclubs in South America)".[13] It was the first Argentinian nightclub, along with Rocket Disco in Bariloche, to feature a LOBBO Laser Show imported from Germany.[14][15]
Cascanueces Mega Disco
This club, located on San Martín Avenue in Los Toldos, is a futuristic nightclub. It opened in 1994.
Cascanueces Mega Disco (Nutcracker Club) was an innovative design, creating multiple spaces for different musical styles in one area.
Its expressive Brutalist architecture has become a landmark for the region. The building, featuring spaces for elevators and a large, conical-shaped, glazed roof, has a capacity for 3,500 people. It is one of the most iconic clubs in the Province of Buenos Aires and a true music coliseum.
