Joseph Tegbe (born March 21, 1966) is a Nigerian management consultant, tax advisor and senior partner and head, technology advisory and markets for KPMG in Nigeria.[1] He is the chairman of the National Council for Management Development and member of the boards of trustees of Unity Schools Old Students Association,[2] President Federal Government College Ogbomosho OSA.[3]

Tegbe contested for 2019 Oyo state governorship election[4] but withdrew during the All Progressives Congress primary election to support Adebayo Adelabu[5] and in 2020, he was installed as the Mogaji[definition needed] of Oguntegbe Family of Labo area of Ibadan by the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji.[6][7][8]

Early life and education[edit]

Tegbe was born to the Jegede compound family in the Labo Area of Ibadan[9] on 21 February 1966. He started his education at St Mary’s RCM School, Oyo and then obtained his Ordinary Level School Certificate from Federal Government College Ogbomoso where he finished as best graduating student in 1983.[10] Thereafter, he proceeded to the Obafemi Awolowo University where he studied civil engineering with first class honors and emerged as the best graduating student.[11] He is a 2011 alumnus of Harvard Business School, leadership management programme and the Lagos Business School.[12]

Career[edit]

Tegbe started his career as a system engineer at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation during his mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps after school completion and then moved on to Arthur Andersen Business Consulting[13] in 1989 before leaving in 2001 to join KPMG and became a senior partner and head, technology advisory and markets at KPMG Nigeria and also the KPMG Africa lead for cybersecurity practice; public sector and technology, media telecommunication. Between 1991 and 1992, Tegbe has also worked (contract staff) as head of materials accounting for Shell Petroleum Development Company and led implementation of ERPs[jargon] for major companies in Nigeria and Ghana, including finance function transformation engagements for entities like Shell and Ghana Airways.[10]

He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria,[14] Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Harvard Business School and advanced management programme for INSEAD, France.[15]

Politics[edit]

Tegbe was appointed to lead the presidential initiative in 2005, as the technical consultant to Project Destination Nigeria, an initiative under the government of former president Olusegun Obasanjo to analyze and identify comparative advantage areas for the nation.[16] He was also an economics consultant to the Oyo State government under the leadership of Abiola Ajimobi and part of the team that went to Denmark on a fact-finding mission with Gov. Ajimobi, to understand how cattle colonies are being run.[17][18]

He ventured into politics in 2018 hoping to become Governor of Oyo State under the platform of All Progressive Congress.[19] After over three months of gubernatorial campaigning, Tegbe withdrew from the race to support the sole candidate of the party Adebayo Adelabu.[20][21]

Personal[edit]

Tegbe is a devout Christian of Anglican background[22] and married to Mrs. Abimbola Tegbe (née Ayandipo) with two sons.[18]
