Joshua James is an American entrepreneur, co-founder and CEO of Zig Media, a mobile technology platform acquired in June, 2019 by the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Group [2]. He also previously co-founded and served as CEO of Basecamp Productions, a music production company.

Career[edit]

James attended both Seattle University and Washington State University into his senior year, but did not graduate. Before co-founding Zig Media, James co-founded an broadband company called RiseTech that was subsequently sold to EQ Office. James then co-founded Basecamp Productions. Beginning with Pearl Jam’s groundbreaking “Official Bootlegs” series,[3][4] artists who appeared on recordings distributed exclusively by Basecamp include: Pearl Jam, Linkin Park,[5] Jay-Z, U2, Disturbed, Chris Cornell, Tori Amos, Ben Harper, The Black Crowes, The Cult, Busta Rhymes, Sleater-Kinney, Kings of Leon, Mudhoney, My Morning Jacket, Sonic Youth and many others. In 2009 Basecamp was acquired by the Warner Music Group where James worked for a number of years before leaving to launch Zig Media.

Zig Media was first announced on CNBC[6] and then dubbed "The Instagram for news" by The New York Times[7], the company's platform distills original and sourced content into images and video[8][9], then distributes it through mobile phones [10][11][12]and desktop computer application Fast Company reported that ZIG investors included Graydon Carter, Ronald Meyer, Quincy Jones, Live Nation and Vivi Nevo among others.[13] In June, 2019 James sold the company to the Billboard-Hollywood Reporter Group [14]
