Kannada American
Kannada Americans are one of the Indian American communities originating from Karnataka state. The community is formed by those who speak Kannada language and were born or settled in the USA. There are large Kannada American communities in various cities, including New York City, New Jersey, Chicago, Illinois, San Francisco Bay Area, the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, California, Dallas, Texas, and Houston, Texas; and in Canada: Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. Various local Kannada communities, what are commonly called "Kannada Koota" Kannada Associations, have come together to form two associations called Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) and North America Vishwa Kannada Association (NAVIKA) at the national level.
Many Kannada Americans are professionals in the engineering field, although physicians are not too far behind.[citation needed]
