Kanthi D Suresh (born 1977) is an Indian sports journalist and media entrepreneur, recognized as the first woman in India to head a 24x7 sports channel, Power Sportz.[1] She has anchored major international sports events, including the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games, and got recognised for her show "Talking Turkey with Kanthi," which discusses India's global athletic presence.[2] She also serves as president of the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), promoting sports like kabaddi globally.[2][3][not in citation given]
Early Life and Education
Kanthi was born in 1977 in Bangalore, India, and raised in Hyderabad.[4] She completed her schooling at Nasr School in Hyderabad and earned a bachelor's degree in Arts from Osmania University. She later obtained an MBA in Human Resource Management and a certificate in journalism from the London School of Journalism.[4]
Career
Kanthi began her career as a political news anchor for Doordarshan News before transitioning to sports journalism in 2008, when she anchored the Beijing Olympics for DD Sports.[1] She subsequently covered major events, including the 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2010 Asian Games, 2012 London Olympics, 2014 Commonwealth Games, and 2014 Asian Games.[4] Her anchoring required extensive knowledge of sports like Fencing and Modern Pentathlon, emphasizing quick adaptability and awareness of global sports records.[4]
In May 2018, Kanthi founded Power Sportz, India’s first over-the-top (OTT) live sports journalism channel, based in Gurugram.[5] The channel, available on desktop, Android, iOS, and Amazon Fire TV stick, reports up to 2 million daily viewers and covers diverse sports content.[2] In 2020, the Government of India recognized her as the first woman to head a 24x7 sports channel via the MyGovIndia handle.[2] She was also invited by the BBC as a Game Changer in Sports.[2]

Kanthi is married to D. Suresh, an IAS officer and former Ranji Trophy cricketer from Hyderabad.[4] They have two sons, both of whom are interested in cricket.[2] She is a maternal cousin of J. Jayalalithaa, the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, a connection that drew attention when Kanthi expressed concerns over a web series about Jayalalithaa’s life.[8]
