Keezhara is a village of Kannapuram Panchayat in Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala.
This village is located completely on the banks of Kuppam River towards south of Cherukunnu in Kannur District of North Malabar region in Kerala.[1]

Keezhara is located at 11°59′N 75°26′E / 11.98°N 75.43°E
. [2] It has an average elevation of 1 metre (3 feet).

According to the 2011 India census,[3] Keezhara had a population of 3,875.
Etymology
Keezhara is situated on the banks of Kuppam river and has a maximum area of paddy fields (kaippad). It is located below the Hills of Cherukunnu. Since it is a paddy chamber at the bottom (കീഴ്), it was known as Keezhara (കീഴ് നെല്ലറ).
History
During Kolathiri rule, Keezhara was part of Cherukunnu. Later, Tipu Sultan adjoined this area as part of Kingdom of Mysore. The British Raj attached this area to Kannapuram Desam of Chirakkal Taluk of Malabar District in Madras Presidency. Presently this is a village in Kannapuram Panchayat of Kannur District of Kerala State.
Transportation
The national highway passes through Taliparamba town. Goa and Mumbai can be accessed on the northern side and Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram can be accessed on the southern side. The road to the east of Iritty connects to Mysore and Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Kannapuram on Mangalore-Palakkad line. Trains are available to almost all parts of India subject to advance booking over the internet. There are airports at Kannur, Mangalore and Calicut. All of them are international airports but direct flights are available only to Middle Eastern countries.
