"Kimmy Goes to a Party!" is the seventh episode of the first season of the American streaming television sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. The episode premiered in the United States on Netflix on March 6, 2015. The show's teleplay was written by Robert Carlock, one of the show's creators. "Kimmy Goes to a Party!" was directed by Nicole Holofcener.

In this episode, Kimmy Schmidt's (Elle Kemper) boss Jaqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski) throws a party for the return of her husband Julian (Mark Harelik), secretly plotting to expose an affair she thinks he is having. At the party, Kimmy, pretending to be a guest, flirts with a wealthy man, Logan Beekman (Adam Campbell), and Kimmy's roommate Titus Andromedon (Titus Burgess) attempts to impress Ashton Splode (John C. Vennema), who he thinks is a Broadway producer.

Plot[edit]

Jaqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski) confronts her husband, Julian (Mark Harelik), about her suspicion that he is having an affair. He assures her that he is doing nothing of the kind and tells her that he is headed to New York that evening. When they arrive, Jaqueline confides to her employee Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper) that she will have to catch Julian in the act. Later, Jaqueline asks if Kimmy could listen in on Julian's private phone call. As they listen, they hear him talking to a woman named Yuko (Maho Honda) asking to see her tonight. He tells Yuko that he will throw a dinner party as a disguise and then they will sneak into his home office. Jaqueline sends Kimmy to a drugstore to get talcum powder and to arrange the party. After getting her roommate Titus Andromedon (Titus Burgess) to sing at the party and give her a makeover for the party, Kimmy returns to the Voorhees residence to give Jaqueline the powder. Jaqueline explains to her that she will put the powder on the floor. She also tells Kimmy that Julian loves "toe play." She explains that Julian will give a toast and everyone will see the powder on his pants, exposing his affair.

As Kimmy is going to get Jaqueline a drink, she meets a wealthy man, Logan Beekman (Adam Campbell), and pretends to be a guest attending the party. As Titus is performing, he overhears Julian asking Ashton Splode (John C. Vennema) "so how's Broadway treating you?" and Titus sings "Let It Go," thinking that Splode is a Broadway producer. Splode also notices a pen in Julian's coat lapel from a resort in Maui, further hinting that he had a romantic getaway without Jaqueline. Meanwhile, Julian's daughter Xanthippe (Dylan Gelula) notices that Kimmy is flirting with Logan, and she plans to spill the secret. At the dinner table, Julian gives a toast and stands up but Jaqueline and Kimmy see that there is no powder on him. Julian reveals that the woman he was talking with is actually Isaye Watanabe and that Yuko is the name of a robot his company has been building. After dinner, Yuko continues to impress the guests, even stealing the spotlight from Titus by singing "Let's Do It, Let's Fall in Love." Logan invites Kimmy to go on a date with him after the party but Xanthippe reveals Kimmy's true identity.

After the party, Jaqueline angrily throws water at Yuko, making the robot malfunction, and Titus helps bury it in the backyard flowerbed. However, Julian finds them and Titus rushes to talk to Ashton before he leaves. However, he reveals that he runs a themed restaurant with singing waiters on Broadway. The next morning, Titus goes to work at the restaurant and Yuko wakes up, "activating revenge mode." Logan comes back to the house to talk to Kimmy and formally ask her out. Jaqueline and Julian go to meet with their couples therapist, Dr. Goodman (Lisa Masters). Jaqueline sees the same pen from the Maui resort in Goodman's shirt lapel and it confirms her theory about Julian.

"Kimmy Kisses a Boy!" was written by Robert Carlock, one of the show's creators alongside Tina Fey. It was directed by Nicole Holofcener. This was Holofcener's first and only time directing for the show and Carlock's third time writing for the show.
