Kishore Jhunjhunwala is an Indian numismatist, coin collector and co-author of The Revised Standard Reference Guide to Indian Paper Money, a book written in collaboration with Rezwan Razack, who is the chairman of India's largest property developer the Prestige Group.

Early Life[edit]

He was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra.[1][2] He completed his education at the University of Mumbai.[3][4]

He was initially an industrialist but now he is retired and devotes all his time to coin collecting.[5][6]

Coin collecting[edit]

He is perhaps best known for his collection of antique coins and banknotes. His collection consists of more than 25,000 items, classified into more than 100 categories, including rare stamps and coins, medals from other countries, rare original editions of old newspapers, among much more.[7][8]

His coin collection has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai by the Ministry of Culture.[9][10]

He is now retired from his career of industrialist.[11][12]

He currently resides in Bhuleshwar, Mumbai and has converted a part of his residence into a museum of Indian currency.[13][14]

He is the co-author of The Revised Standard Reference Guide to Indian Paper Money, with Rezwan Razack, who is the chairman of India's largest property developer the Prestige Group.[15][16]

The book provides the entire history of Indian bank notes since 1770, when the Bank of Hindostan, a private bank situated at Calcutta issued its first banknotes of India. Nevertheless, the earliest banknote to be featured in the book is dated 1812 and is by the Bank of Bengal. This book features a comprehensive listing of all Indian banknotes since that date till the present.[17][18]
