Template:Hangugeo is a Korean manhwa-style webcomic written and illustrated by Template:Hangugeo. It was first published as an official Naver Webtoon on February 7, 2010. The English-language version was released on Webtoons on June 30, 2014. Both the Korean and English versions are still being published.
Plot[edit]
In a world with gods having everlasting lives, suras who possess unrivaled power, and humans who caught helplessly in between, a girl with a god's name, Kubera, is born—a girl who is prophesied to bring great change into the world. When Kubera’s peaceful village meets its fiery end, a mysterious magician named Asha comes to her rescue. Together they begin a journey in search of answers and revenge. Self-deception, lies, broken promises, and betrayal occur frequently in the story. Throughout the story are continual references to the Power of the Name.
The webtoon is currently in its second season.
Season 1[edit]
The first season is where the ten main characters are introduced. It begins with the destruction of Kubera Leez's village and her first meeting with Asha Rahiro. It continues with their travels between different cities, where the pair meet both Yuta and Ran Sairofe, who join them on their journey to the city of Kalibloom. The season ends just as the group arrives not far from the city.
Multiple sub-plots are introduced this season, including the arrival of an army from the sura realm who attack human cities and villages for unknown reasons. The leader of the army, Sagara, has some sort of alliance with the god Kubera, in spite of the fact that the suras and the gods are enemies.
Season 2[edit]
The first half of the season takes place in the city of Kalibloom, which hosts the Test of the Sword. As Leez gains ownership of the sword, the suras aim to kill one of the priests of the city so they can enter it.
The second half takes place in the floating city of Aeroplateau, where Asha is tried for a second time for murder, and Leez's relationship with her falls apart. With the imminent attack on the northern city of Rindhallow, the city of Aeroplateau moves to its location, and the cities join forces and defend against the largest sura attack yet.
Characters of Kubera[edit]
Many of the characters' names are derived from Hindu mythology, but the story itself is not based on it.
Main Characters[edit]
Kubera Leez[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is the main protagonist of the webtoon. Her alias is Template:Hangugeo. She is a pure blood teenage girl who was raised in an isolated village by her mother. On her 16th birthday, while she is away collecting mushrooms, her village is obliterated by "the red bird". She is rescued by a magician named Asha Rahiro and they flee to the nearby city of Atera. Her goal is to get revenge by killing the red bird.
Asha Rahiro[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a pure blood and a planet-wide famous magician. She is helping Kubera Leez in her quest, but has her own hidden agenda as well. She is the only magician on Willrarv holding the (otherwise nonexistent) rank of A++.
Gandharva[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a nastika, king of the Gandharva tribe, and foster father of Maruna. He is cooperating with Sagara and God Kubera's scheme against his will, with the promise of locating his beloved daughter. He is severely weakened, with most (if not all) of his tribe decimated.
Maruna[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a rakshasa and the oldest living son of the king of the Garuda tribe. He assists Gandharva and participates in Sagara and God Kubera's scheme in exchange for finding the location of his sister and brother. His goal is to save his weakened tribe and find a way to help his father recover from his coma.
Brilith Ruin[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a pure blood and the Priest of Fire in the city of Atera. She has summoned the god Agni from the god realm, but her health is suffering from maintaining his summoned state. She takes her responsibilities as a priest very seriously, but also tends to worry a lot.
Agni[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is the God of Fire. Despite his billions of years in age, he has a youthful and joking personality, usually referring to himself as his alter ego Template:Hangugeo. He is known for his absurdly honest nature by all major suras and gods. He resides in the human realm as a summoned god whose power is restricted.
God Kubera[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is the God of Earth, who is renowned for his wealth (among humans) and his highly apathetic nature (among the gods and suras). He is involved in a mysterious scheme with Sagara; he was involved with the death of Ananta and now regrets it. Leez, not knowing his real name, calls him Template:Hangugeo and thinks he is just another human magician.
Sagara[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a nastika and the current king of the Ananta tribe. She has traveled to the human realm with her army, looking to avenge the death of the first king, Ananta. She is brusque and manipulative, but has been shown to be willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of her underlings in her tribe.
Yuta[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a rakshasa of both Taraka and Garuda heritage. The name Yuta, used among the humans, was given to him by Leez; his brother Maruna refers to him by another name, Template:Hangugeo. His real name is hidden. He joins Asha Rahiro and Leez Haias on their journey, and develops a crush on Leez. However, his stepmother Taraka puts doubt in his mind whether his feelings are actually love or just hunger.
Ran Sairofe[edit]
Template:Hangugeo is a quarter and a magician with the rare ability to cast spells without calculating. He is known as the guy who failed Topology eight times, and is forced to go on a graduation quest with Asha in order to graduate from his university. He joins Asha, Leez, and Yuta on their journey and sympathetically watches over Leez like a big brother. He has an irrational fear of halfs, but has no problem being around suras such as Yuta.
