Dr. Kumar J. Doctor is an Indian Ophthalmologist, a gold medal winner and recipient of the Daljit Singh's Gold Medal Award in 2002 (awarded on 27 September). He also won an award in the field of refractive surgery from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the late Sri. Vilasrao Deshmukh. He specializes in removing spectacle power using Excimer laser with LASIK surgery and cataract removal by phacoemulsification with foldable and multifocal I.O.L implantation.

Early life

He was a member of the Scientific Committee – AIOS from 1999 to 2005. He was an editor of the Vision Restoration Asia Pacific Journal and the Chief Editor of the Journal of BOA (Bombay Ophthalmologists’ Association) for 3 years. Dr. Kumar was the President of IIRSI.[1][2][3]

Career

He graduated in medicine (MBBS) and is the Chief Medical Director of the Doctor Eye Institute,[4] Mumbai. He is also a member of the All India Ophthalmological Society: AIOS[5], and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery: ASCRS.[6][7] He has performed multiple live demonstrations in cataract surgery and LASIK surgery.[8][9]

Awards

He has received the Best Paper Award at ASCRS, the Best Video Award at APAO, and his poster[6] was awarded second prize in the keratorefractive category at ASCRS 2011.
