Laura Dinu

Laura Dinu (Eiven-Dinu Elena-Laura; b. February 9, 1994, Hunedoara, Hunedoara county, Romania) is a singer, songwriter and actress from Romania. Laura Dinu became well-known in Romania after she competed at the Romania's Got Talent show in 2021 with the song "Unii și alții"[1].

Life and Career

1994–2020: Childhood and Music

Laura was born on February 9 in Hunedoara and is the second child of the Dinu family. Her father died on February 8, 2008, one day before Laura's 14th birthday, and her mother died on January 1, 2014, when Laura was in her first year of University and only 19 at the time.[2] She completed her first year of High School in 2010 in Hunedoara, at Iancu de Hunedoara National Collage, and then moved to Craiova with her mother and sister where she attended Frații Buzești National College until 2013. She continued her studies in England, where she graduated in 2016 from Middlesex University's Theatre Department with a specialization in Solo Performing.[3] Laura's first attempt to make a name for herself in music began in 2012 when the young performer was in Milan, where she was working as a model during the summer[4]. Later on, in University, she took the modules that prepared her for the development of her own brand[5]. In the autumn of 2019 she moved back home to Romania and in the beginning of 2020 she retired to an Orthodox Monastery in Sibiu county where she stayed for about half a year.[6] Asked why she dropped out everything, Laura replied that wanted to discover her true intentions and motivations behind her desire to pursuer a music career.[7]

At the end of 2020 Laura left the monastery. Shortly after returning to town she applied for the Voice of Romania[8]. A few days later she got a call from the organizers of the show who suggested her to audition for Romania's Got Talent instead[9], as The Voice would not be held that year due to the restrictions imposed by Covid-19.[10] At the audition, after messing up the first two songs, she sang "Unii și alții".[11] The judges were pleasantly surprised by the last song and invited Laura to Bucharest for the jury audition.[12]

2021 The success of „Unii și alții” and the album «În limba mea»

The success of "Unii și alții" confirmed to Laura that music was indeed her path, but when she set out to start the recording of her first album she discovered that she couldn't afford it on her own. She reached out to her listeners via social media platforms and her fans sent her donations from all over the world. After two years of work, on July 31, on the day of her one-year wedding anniversary, Laura released her first studio album as a female singer: În Limba Mea (2023).[13] The album was produced by Zoltan Kiss, Csaba Cszaz and Norbert Kovacs. Among the musicians who played on the album she mentioned the Cazanoi Brothers, Vaughn Roberts, Flow Strings Quartet, the violinist Roland Jakob Attila, the bassist Szabolcs Gyergyai (Szabi), the drummer Ovidiu Cristian (Chico), the rapper Nimeni Altu' and the vocalists Teodora Bota (Tess) and Krisztina Koszorus (Koszika)[14].
