First appearanceFiend Folio (1981)

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the lava children are a type of fictional monster.

Publication history[edit]

The lava children first appeared in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).[1]

Description[edit]

A lava child is a humanoid resembling a broadly-built man, but with a curious childlike appearance, with pinkish-white skin and a permanent smile on its face. A lava child is the unnatural offspring of a union between spirits of earth and fire. Metal objects pass through lava children without harming them as if the metal did not exist, and they can move through metal without hindrance. Any metal armor worn by a victim does nothing to protect the victim from the clawed hands or bites of lava children.

Other publishers[edit]

The lava children appeared in the Tome of Horrors (2002) from Necromancer Games.[2]

The lava children are fully detailed in Paizo Publishing's book Misfit Monsters Redeemed (2010), on pages 40–45.[3]
