Learners' Innovation Forum on Education

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Learners' Innovation Forum on Education (LIFE)[1] is a Beijing-based initiative that aims to discover and support humanistic and bottom-up education innovation in China. LIFE was launched in 2014 by 21st Century Education Research Institute, "a leading education think-tank in China" [2]. With a biennial summit held in Beijing and a variety of year-round activities, LIFE offers a platform for research, advocacy and action that drives and promotes cross-sector collaborations in education. Currently, small innovative schools, homeschooling, and education promoting traditional Chinese culture are among LIFE’s main areas of focus.

The initials LIFE implies that education is for the growth of life, relevant to life and is a lifelong learning process.

LIFE Summit[edit]

The LIFE Summit takes place every two years in Beijing, China. It attracts hundreds of educational innovators across China and is attended by over 1,000 leaders, practitioners and other stakeholders in education. The first LIFE Summit was held in April 25-26, 2015, under the theme of “Reinventing Education for Life". The second LIFE Summit was held in April 22-23, 2017, under the theme of "Learning Without Boundaries".

WISE-LIFE China Forum[edit]

In November 2015, LIFE partnered with the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in hosting the WISE-LIFE China Education Forum in Beijing, with the theme of Innovating for Equity and Empowerment[3]. The forum focused on topics including frugal innovation, education for rural and migrant children, 21st century skills and promoting education equity in China and around the world. During the forum, a book series on education innovation was released in Mandarin Chinese: "Reinventing Education for Life" and three WISE books, including "Innovation in Education", "Learning a Living", and "Learning [Re] imagined"[4].

Partners[edit]

The LIFE initiative cooperates with partners in researching and advocating education innovation. They include the Global Education Initiative for Innovation (GEII) at Harvard University and the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE)[5].
