Lila Krishan (4 January 1933 – 2003) was an Indian politician from Haryana. He represented the Fatehabad Assembly constituency in the Haryana Legislative Assembly on three occasions, in 1983, 1991 and 2000.[1][2] He served in the Haryana government as Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Minister of State for Tourism.[3][4]
Early life
Lila Krishan was born on 4 January 1933 in Multan district, then part of British India. He obtained degrees in B.A., LL.B. and B.Ed.[1] He served as a municipal commissioner of Fatehabad from 1961 to 1970.[1]
Political career
Lila Krishan was elected to the Haryana Legislative Assembly from Fatehabad in a by-election held on 23 December 1983 as a candidate of the Indian National Congress.[2][5] His election was challenged before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which set it aside in 1984. The Supreme Court of India subsequently allowed his appeal and upheld his election.[5] He was appointed Chief Parliamentary Secretary in the Haryana government on 14 September 1984.[3]
In the 1991 Haryana Legislative Assembly election, Lila Krishan was elected from Fatehabad as a Congress candidate, defeating Prithvi Singh Gorkhpuria of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) by 5,208 votes.[6] He served as Minister of State for Tourism in the Haryana government.[4][7]
He contested Fatehabad again in the 1996 Haryana Legislative Assembly election as a Congress candidate but was defeated by Harminder Singh of the Haryana Vikas Party.[8] In the 2000 Haryana Legislative Assembly election, he returned to the assembly as an Indian National Lok Dal candidate and defeated Congress candidate Jai Narain.[8]
Lila Krishan died in 2003 while serving as the member for Fatehabad, after which a by-election was held for the constituency.[9]
