Lincoln "Cowboy" de Sá is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist who competes in the strawweight division. A professional MMA competitor since 2009, de Sa has spent the entirety of his career in Brazil, mostly notably for Shooto, where he was the inaugural Shooto 115 lb South American champion.
Mixed Martial Arts career[edit]
Background[edit]
Lincoln de Sá competes at strawweight (115 lb) and trains with Art Combat.[1] de Sa's professional debut was in June 2009, when he faced Daniel Silva. His debut was successful, as he defeated Silva via submission in the opening round.[2]
Three months later, de Sa had his second fight. However, this one was not as successful, as de Sa fell to a unanimous decision loss at the hands of Anderson Wilsinho.[3] After taking almost a year out of competition, de Sa faced Rafael Lima, defeating him via rear naked choke in the first round.[4]
Shooto[edit]
In 2010, the Shooto promotion wanted to establish their own flyweight (115 lb) champion, in addition to the Shooto World Champion Rambaa Somdet. The promotion then set up an eight-man, two-event grand prix to decide the champion.[5]
In the opening round of the tournament, de Sa faced Jean Buiu. In the second round, de Sa was able to lock in a kneebar, forcing the tapout. The semi-final round that same night saw de Sa face Andre Costa Pereira. de Sa claimed his second successive submission victory of the night, forcing a tapout from a rear naked choke midway through the opening round.[6]
The two tournament wins resulted in de Sa reaching the final that took place at Shooto - Brazil 20. The winner of the final would become the inaugural Shooto 115 lb South American Champion. de Sa faced Michael Willian Costa for the championship.[7] The winner of that bout was also expected to face Rambaa Somdet for the Shooto Flyweight (115 lb) World Championship.[7] de Sa won the bout against Costa via split decision.[1]
