Sindhis (Sindhi: سنڌي Sindhis (Sindhi: سنڌي (Perso-Arabic); सिन्धी (Devanagari); /ˈsɪndis/[1] sˈɪndhiː, romanised as sin-dhee) are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group who speak the Sindhi language and are native to the Sindh province of Pakistan, and regions around Sindh, like Kacchi Plain and Makran in Balochistan, the Bahawalpur region of Punjab, the Kutch region of Gujarat, India[2] and Jaisalmer and Barmer region of Rajasthan, India.[3][4]

Most Sindhi tribes/Castes are a modified form of a patronymic and typically end with the suffix -ani, Ja or potra/poto, which is used to denote descent from a common male ancestor. One explanation states that the -ani suffix is a Sindhi variant of 'anshi', derived from the Sanskrit word 'ansh', which means 'descended from'. The first part of a Sindhi surname is usually derived from the name or location of an ancestor. In northern Sindh, surnames ending in 'ja' (meaning 'of') are also common.[5][6]

Most of Sindhi tribes are Rajputs, Jats, Sammats, Arabs/mughal/Turkic and others in origin, list of Sindhi tribes is given below[7][8][9][10]
