LiveMedia is a media company based in India that displays advertising content on its network of video screens. [1]

History

LiveMedia was founded on 1 July 2006 by Rajan Mehta, a member of the board of directors and former Vice President of Nortel India. Targeting the hospitality sector, the first company with which LiveMedia arranged to install screens was McDonald's, followed by Nirula’s. In the first three months, they signed 20 contracts and installed approximately 500 screens. The first company to agree to advertise with LiveMedia was Maruti Suzuki, followed by GlaxoSmithKline.[2]

By 2007, LiveMedia had expanded to other cities in northern India, including Chandigarh, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, and Jaipur. The company expanded into the corporate sector, and later into personal care, education, and healthcare. [3] The company's valuation at that time was $15 million, and in March Draper Fisher Jurvetson invested $4 million in exchange for a 21.05% stake. [4] [5]

LiveMedia raised its second round of funding in July 2008, a total of $15 million, from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Bay Partners, and Samsung. The breakdown was: $8 million from Bay Partners, $4 million from Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and $3 million from Samsung. After these two rounds of investment, Draper Fisher Jurvetson held a 38.30% stake.

As well as extensive advertising content,[6] LiveMedia began showing a mix of games, quizzes, horoscopes, and inexpensive short animations in 2009 to attract viewers. [7]

In 2010, LiveMedia acquired an interest in Tag Media, a company with an in-store television network. [8][9]

The third edition of exchange4media OOH Awards 2013 awarded LiveMedia the title of ‘OOH Media Owner of the Year’. [10]

By 2013, the LiveMedia network of screens was installed in approximately 3,000 locations across 80 cities and towns in India. The company has contracts with Barista Lavazza,[11][12] McDonald's, Domino's Pizza, TGIF, Genpact, Fortis, Dr. Batra's, Jaypee Greens, Costa Coffee[13] and BSNL.

By 2014, LiveMedia was showing approximately fifteen entertainment programs, including Graffiti, GlobeTrotter, Horoscope Live, Humor Live, Kaun Banega Hoshiyar, Kitty & Witty, Logo mania,[14] Love unplugged, Make My Word, Mein Hun Kaun,[15] Mr.Wise, Sports Live, Bachelor of Trivia,[16] and Yo Mousi.
