Lokad is a French software company specializing in supply chain optimization. Founded in 2008, the company provides cloud-based analytics solutions using machine learning, probabilistic forecasting, and differentiable programming to enhance supply chain decision-making.[1][2] Lokad is known for being the first to use quantile forecasting and probabilistic forecasting in supply chain management.[citation needed] Those techniques have been applied to aviation.[3][4]
History
Lokad was founded in 2008 by Joannes Vermorel, a graduate of the École normale supérieure (Paris), with a focus on improving demand forecasting and inventory optimization through software-based solutions.[citation needed] In 2010, Lokad received the Microsoft Azure Partner of the Year Award for its early adoption of cloud computing for forecasting.[5]
In 2012, Lokad introduced quantile forecasting, making it the first company to offer this method at an industrial scale.[6] This innovation aimed to address the limitations of traditional mean-based forecasts by adjusting predictions according to service level requirements and cost structures. Expanding on big data capabilities.[7]
By 2019, Lokad became the first company to apply differentiable programming to supply chain optimization, allowing for end-to-end optimization of supply chain decisions using gradient-based learning techniques.[8] In 2020, Lokad was ranked 6th at the M5 Forecasting Competition, with the company's methods ranking first at the SKU level for forecasting accuracy.[9][10] In 2023, the company rebranded their offering under the artificial intelligence umbrella.[11]
