Luka Mičeta (born 1959 in Belgrade) is a Serbian journalist, publicist, and author. He began his journalism career in the early 1980s. Mičeta graduated from the First Belgrade Gymnasium and studied economics at the University of Belgrade.[1] He was a commentator and editor for the cult Belgrade newspaper Student and for NIN, a weekly magazine often described as the Serbian equivalent of Newsweek or Time.[2]

Mičeta was NIN’s exclusive interviewer for many years, conducting interviews with influential figures in Yugoslav political and cultural life.[3][4] He was the first Serbian journalist to interview a pope — Pope Benedict XVI.[5][6]

After the overthrow of Slobodan Milošević in 2000, Mičeta was appointed (2003) director general of the Serbian state news agency Tanjug.[2] He restored Tanjug's professional reputation, modernized it, and reintroduced it to the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA). During his leadership, Tanjug also launched Serbia’s first webcast and video service.[7] In 2008, Mičeta resigned from his position as director general of the Tanjug news agency.[8][9]

Mičeta is often described as a biographer of Serbia’s "Golden Middle Ages", due to his numerous works about medieval Serbian rulers.[10][11][12] His books include:

  • Serbs and Democracy (1992)
  • The Fate of a Bosniak (1997/1999)
  • Vane Ivanović – Between Tito and Draža (2010)
  • Suleiman, Hurrem and the Serbs (2012)
  • The Return of the King (2013)
  • Stefan Nemanja – The Birth of European Serbia (2013)
  • Stefan Dečanski (2014)
  • Spirit of Rebellion (2015)
  • Stefan the First-Crowned (2015; special edition 2017)
  • A Cry of Passions and Triumph Marches (2015/2016)
  • Despot Stefan Lazarević (2016)
  • King Milutin (2016)
  • Dušan the Mighty (2016)
  • Karađorđe I & II (2018)
  • The Echo of the Past (2019), The Echo of the Past II (2020)
  • The Legacy of Saint Sava (2019)
  • The Nemanjić Dynasty (2021)
  • Accidental History (2022)
  • Vatican Nightmares (2023)

In addition to his books, Mičeta has given interviews and been featured in various independent media, including Danas,[13][14][15] Politika,[16] Blic,[17] RTS,[18] N1,[19] and others.

Since 2024, he has been the author and host of the TV show Sinteza (In Spectrum with Luka Mičeta) on Newsmax Adria Balkans.[20] His work has been described as an effort to connect historical narratives with contemporary cultural and political issues.[21]

Mičeta is married to Jelena, and they have a son, Aleksandar.
