Vojislav D. Dević (Serbian: Војислав Д. Девић; born 1952) is a Serbian researcher, theoretician and practitioner of spatial planning, city planning, architecture and the protection of architectural heritage, ecology, futurology, cartography and geo-strategic projects. He is also a notable peace activist and ecologist.[1]

Biography and Career[edit]

Dević graduated at the City Planning Department of The Faculty of Architecture on University of Belgrade in 1977. He specialized in city planning at University Paris VIII in Saint Denis in 1982/83.

From 1979 to 1994, Dević was employed at the Institute for City Planning in Novi Sad, where, from 1992 to 1994, he was a member of the board of directors. He was also a member of the Novi Sad City Board for the insight into city plans from 1990 to 1992 and 2001 to 2003. From 2001 to 2002 he was employed at the Executive Council of the AP of Vojvodina in the Secretariat for Economy, the Sector for City Planning and Construction. From 2013 to 2016 he was a member of the Council for Urbanism, Office Space and Housing at the City Council of Novi Sad.

Since 1992 Dević has been the Secretary of the Slavic Institute in Novi Sad; since 2005 the consultant of the SASA Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić”; the director of Strateg Projekt, and since 2011 the manager of the Foundation “Matica Mira” (Peace Matrix). He was elected as a professor and academician at the International Slavic Academy of Science, Education and Art in Moscow in 1995.

Dević is a public protector of Novi Sad squares, cemeteries, and churches as well as an advocate of general architectural heritage of Vojvodina[2] and civilisational heritage of Serbian Danube Area.[3]

He participated in around thirty professional and scientific symposiums of Serbian, Yugoslav, European and World level with original reports. Dević is also a collaborator and author of several dozen of city plans and projects. He authored a large number of articles published in professional journals and daily newspapers.

Dević is a member of the Association of Architects of Novi Sad, the Association of the Applied Artists and Designers of Vojvodina, the Association of City Planners of Serbia, Slavic Institute in Novi Sad, European Institute for the Research of Early Slavs in London, and the International Slavic Academy of Science, Education, Culture and Art in Moscow.

Philosophical ideas and peace projects[edit]

He is notable regional ecologist and the creator of new theoretical and cultural concepts: ″Biopolis″ — a model of healthy, harmonious and desirable town; ″Olimpiapolis″ — a balanced city of non-violent peace; ″Mudrapolis″ — the strategy of survival of the cities in the 21st century; Fruška gora as the third Holy Mountain; as well as ″Asketopolis″ — the strategy of self-limitation of the city.

Dević is the author of peace activism through urbanistic concepts and projects: Ecumenical residence, near the sanctuary Our Lady of Snow on Tekije; ″Serbalbanopolis″, the City of the Reconciliation between the Serbs and the Albanians; ″Serb-Bos-Cro″, the Palace of the Reconciliation of the Orthodox Serbs, Islamic Bosnians and Roman Catholic Croatians in Sarajevo;[4] ″Japan Polis″ in the Central Danube Area; ″Cenpantrans″ - the Centre of Pan-harmonious Transfiguration of the Man and the World (the biggest project that Serbia has ever displayed at Expo 2010 in Shanghai in the Serbian Pavilion; it was seen by more than 3,5 million visitors); ″Pan-European Danube″ Peace-making Area; ″Bel-Ber-Mos″, Belgrade-Berlin-Moscow, the City of Reconciliation of Germans and Russians in the Serbian Danube Area; Prague - the City of Reconciliation of Great Powers; Novi Sad - New Peace - New Good: Novi Sad, European Peace Capital in the 21 st century; Fruška Gora, the third Holy Mountain of Europe, the Mediterranean etc.
