MYMY catering (spoken as "my my") is a German foodservice company headquartered in Berlin, Germany. Formerly known as MeinWunschcatering, MYMY offers nationwide catering service in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands.

History[edit]

Foundation[edit]

MeinWunschcatering GmbH was founded in May 2017 by Jens Basenach.[2][3] Seed funding was received in April 2019 from b10 VC, Berlin Technologie Holding and 10X Value Partners in order to expand the business within Germany and enter into new markets.[4][5][6][7][8]

New Management[edit]

In December 2019, Daniel Calvert and Ricardo Hummel were appointed as new co-Managing Directors operating as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer respectively.[9][10] The new Managing Directors were introduced to bring experience and seniority having both held key roles in food and technology companies, including Google, Uber Eats[11][12][13][14][15], N26[16][17], Gousto, City Pantry (acquired by Just Eat in July 2019)[18] and Keatz. Simultaneous with the change of management, there was a bridge round from a number of angel investors, in addition to b10 VC and Berlin Technology Holdings.

Since January 2020, MYMY has been closely associated with the leading global wholesaler, Metro AG, as participant in their start-up accelerator named Metro Xcel.

Rebranding[edit]

In March 2020, the company was rebranded to MYMY catering, citing international expansion plans. In addition, with the rebrand there was a consolidation with the previous localised brand 'Mijn Droomcatering' in the Netherlands. MYMY is derived from the associated slogan "MY catering, MY way", as the company positions itself as a host centric business, providing standardised catering menus that are customisable.

This prior bridge round was extended in June 2020, as the German government introduced start-up funding support[19][20][21], in order to sustain itself due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions imposed in Germany.[22][23]

Business Model & Product[edit]

MYMY catering operates a hybrid B2C and B2B e-commerce business, often typified as a managed marketplace. Menus are standardised to simplify ordering in categories Buffet, Finger Food and Pig Roast. In March 2020, MYMY deviated from these menus due to the restrictions imposed upon public and private gatherings in Germany[22][23], as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering home catering products instead in partnership with Aveato.[24][25]

Competition[edit]

MYMY catering competed in Germany with Caterwings and Lemoncat. However, this was reduced with the acquisition of Lemoncat by Caterwings in June 2019. Since the withdrawal of Caterwings from Germany in May 2020 as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, competition has been scarce.[26]
