A Malimooju is a cocktail made with coconut rum (e.g. Malibu rum), chocolate milk (e.g., Mooju) and cream served with ice in a highball glass.
History
Created in 2022 in Galway, Ireland by university students Kevin Singleton and Emma van Oosterhout, the drink's popularity soon caught on and its popularity is rapidly growing. Known for being a rather sweet cocktail that can be easily made from cheap ingredients readily available in shops, which is critical to its popularity among the student population, it represents a nice change of pace for cocktails and is popular with those who don't like the strong taste of alcohol.
Preparation
As with all cocktails, various modes of preparation exist, varying according to the recipes and styles of particular bars or mixologists. Most common varieties have adjusted amounts and different brands of coconut rum or chocolate milk, or are served in various fashions such as different glass styles. Shaking the cream in order to thicken it prior to pouring it over the drink is also a known variation, as with the white Russian cocktail. Ice cream can be used in place of cream to make it frozen.
A Malibu Chococo is a warm variation of the cocktail, varying slightly in preparation and lacking ice.[1]
