Maribel Núñez-Valdez
Maribel Núñez Valdez is a professor of Atomistic Materials Research at the Goethe University in Frankfurt and a scientist at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam.[1][2][3]
Life[edit]
At the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Núñez Valdez completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Physics in 2003 and her Master of Science degree in Nuclear Physics in 2004.[1] In 2009, she completed a second master's degree in Theoretical High Energy Physics at the University of Minnesota.[1] In 2011, she also completed her doctorate at the University of Minnesota.[4] The topic of her dissertation was "Structural and Elastic Properties of Fe-Bearing Mg2SiO4 Polymorphs at High Pressures and Temperatures: A First-Principles Study." She was then a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Minnesota until October 2012.[1] From 2013 to 2015, she was a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich.[5] From 2015 to 2016, she was a research fellow at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.[1] Since 2017, she has been a research group leader at the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences in Frankfurt, and since October 2018, she has also been a W2 professor[6] of Atomistic Materials Research at Goethe University in Frankfurt.[1]
Research[edit]
Her research[7] deals with first-principles methods to study structural, electronic, magnetic, elastic, and vibrational properties materials because of their importance to technological applications and to understand the evolution of Earth and other planets and exoplanets.[1]
