Mauricio Toro Bermúdez

Mauricio Toro Bermúdez, also known as Mauricio Toro, (born in 1986) is a Colombian computer scientist.[1]

Mauricio Toro studied Computer Science at Pontifical Xavierian University, Colombia. [2] During his engineering studies, he worked in the development of software for simulation of process calculi in a project co-financed by École polytechnique, France,[3] such as Ntccrt[4], a simulator of the process calculus Non-deterministic Timed Concurrent Constraint.

Afterwards, Mauricio Toro, obtained a PhD in Computer Science from University of Bordeaux, France, supervised by Myriam Desainte-Catherine.[5] In his doctoral dissertation, Mauricio contributed to the creation of a Formal specification for interactive music named Interactive Scores.[6] Mauricio's research also contributed to the creation of i-score.[7] Additionally, during his PhD, Maurcio worked in the project "Robust theories for Emerging Applications in Concurrency Theory: Processes and Logic Used in Emergent Systems" co-financed by École polytechnique, France.[8]

During his postdoctoral research, at University of Cyprus, Cyprus,[9] Mauricio Toro contributed to the creation of a process calculus to study the behavior of ecosystems; in particular, to analyze the behavior of an ecosystem when a new species is introduced or it is in danger of extinction [10]. His main contribution was the creation of a Process Algebra with Locations for Population Systems.[11] This calculus has been used to develop a model and analyze the population dynamics of dengue in Colombia [12] and for the study of Falco eleonorae en el Mediterranean Sea.[13]

Mauricio Toro is the first researcher in Colombia to develop process calculus models to prevent dengue in Colombia[14] and he has been ranked on position 564 among the top 882 scientists in the ranking of researchers in Colombian Institutions according to their Google Scholar Citations public profiles.[15]
