Maxim Krok (born September 26, 1956)[1] is a South African businessman. He is currently the non-executive director of Gold Reef Resorts and Aspen Pharmacare South Africa.[2]
Personal life[edit]
Maxim Krok is the son of the late prominent businessman Abraham Krok and his second wife, and the nephew of Abe’s twin and business partner, Solly Krok. Maxim Krok has two sisters (Shelly Crook (nee Krok) and Elana Pincus (nee Krok)), as well as two half-brothers (Mark Krok and Dovid Krok) and one half-sister (Simone Krok) from Abaraham Krok’s previous marriage.[3] Krok lives in Sydney, Australia, in the Tahiti Mansion, considered one oft the most expensive properties in Australia.[4] He lives there with his wife Nicolette Krok (see Feinberg), together with Nicolette’s two daughters and a son from a previous marriage.
Scandals[edit]
In 2009 the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) charged Krok of tax evasion.[5] Krok allegedly attempted to delay tax examination of his multi-million dollar accounts, most of which he shared with his father Abraham Krok at the time.[6]
In 2013, after the passing of his father, Maxim attracted further controversy after claims surfaced that he took over control of a majority of his father’s assets, with approval of his third wife, Rosie. Family members claimed that Krok forced his father to sign over his assets while in an unconscious state. The Krok family dispute over asset control is ongoing.[7]
Krok was also investigated during the merger of the Gold Reef City Casino with the Tsogo Sun Casino . The chairman of GRC at the time, Krok was accused of accepting a lower offer for the casino in exchange for a bribe of 12 million Rand, which was the alleged difference between the low and high offers. Tsogo Sun ordered an investigation by the Gauteng Gambling Board and the private equity buyout deal by veto.[8]
