Meghlal Mahato is an Indian mountaineer from Jharkhand, who summited Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain peak in 2012.[1]
Meghlal is a native of Paharpur Village in the Rajnagar block of the Seraikela Kharsawan district of Jharkhand. As part of the Eco Everest Spring 2012 campaign, Meghlal started his campaign from Jamshedpur on 20 March 2012 along with his two colleagues. On May 26, 2012, at 6.50 am, Meghlal and Binita Soren, along with Rajendra Singh Pal hoisted the Indian flag on the summit of Mount Everest. The climb was notable for using the northern route to the peak.[2][3]
Meghlal Mahato earlier summited Mt. Stok Kangri (20,305 ft) in 2009, Mt. Saser Kangri (24,331 ft) in 2011, Mt. Aconcagua (22,841 ft), Mt. Island peak (20,305 ft) and Mt. Kala Pattar (18,510 ft).[4]
