Meir Jakobsohn (Hebrew: מאיר יעקבסון‎, Born October 25th 1968) is an Israeli business and social entrepreneur.[1]. He is the founder and CEO of Medison Pharma[2][3][4][5], the biggest medicine company in Israel[6][7]. Initiator and editor in charge[8] of the "Israeli Talmud" project[9].

Biography[edit]

Meir Jakobsohn was born on 25 October 1968 in Tel Aviv, Israel, the son of Arieh and Dora Jakobsohn. Meir Jakobsohn is the third generation of the Jakobsohn family, pioneers in the pharmaceutical industry in Israel since 1937. In 1937 Meir's grandfather, Moshe Jakobsohn, started to import a drug from the Swiss company Ciba-Geigy[4]. Later, the company moved to be run by Meir's father, Arieh Jakobsohn[10].

Jakobsohn is a graduate of Yeshivat Har Etzion and served in the Intelligence Corps of the Israeli Defense Force[11]. He has a bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Bar-Ilan University and is an MBA graduate in business administration from the University of Bradford, England[12].

In 1994 he married Tzilit, an attorney and chairperson of the Bat Melech Association[13], which operates shelters for battered and abused woman from the religious and Ultra-Orthodox sector, who have suffered physical and mental abuse from their husbands and are in danger[14]. They live in Giv'at Shmuel and have eight children.

Career[edit]

In the years 1991 until 1995, Jakobsohn served as Vice President of the M. Jakobsohn company, and in 1996 founded Medison Pharma, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in Israel[15].

Public activity[edit]

Meir Jakobsohn, in collaboration with the author Avi Rat, initiated and edited the Israeli Talmud project[16].

The Israeli Talmud is an education, community and social project which portrays Meir's vision to make the word of the Talmud available to the world of children.[17].

The Israeli Talmud has seven volumes, which cover the entire Talmud, in the order of a page a day, with additions, illustrations, stories, figures and a historical timeline. Every week, tens of thousands of kits are distributed to thousands of students, communities, and learners around the world. The project also includes the distribution of original films and activities on social networks, has tens of thousands of followers, teacher training and extensive educational and community activities in Israel and abroad[18]
