The Royal Brunei Concert was a free concert performed by Michael Jackson in celebration of The Sultan Of Brunei's 50th birthday. The concert was held at the Jerudong Park Amphitheater. It was reported that the Amphitheater was custom built just for the occasion.[1] The theater is now used for events held at the amusement park. The Sultan was not in attendance, but was in attendance on December 31, 1996 when Michael performed at the theater again for his HIStory World Tour. It was reported that Jackson was paid $17 million to do the concert. A private dinner with The Sultan, Prince Charles, Michael Jackson and 3,000 other people was held at Istana Nurul Iman's banquet hall after the show.[2][3][4] [5] [6]
Background[edit]
Michael Jackson was invited to Bandar Seri Begawan to perform a free concert for the Sultan Of Brunei's 50th birthday. The concert resembled Jackson´s 1992–1993 Dangerous World Tour, the concert first was supposed to be a mixture of both Bad World Tour and Dangerous World Tour but was later cut down to the Dangerous setlist. The setlist originally included: Another Part of Me, Rock With You, Bad, Dirty Diana and Heal The World. This concert marks the debut performances of Earth Song, and You Are Not Alone. This concert also marks the final performances of Jam, Human Nature, I Just Can't Stop Loving You and She's Out Of My Life. These songs where later rehearsed for his 2009 concert residency, which were later canceled due to his sudden death. The HIStory World Tour was kept a close secret.[7]
