" Millennium and a year of nostalgia" (Arabic: ألف عام و عام من الحنين) is a novel by the Algerian novelist Rachid boudjedra, translated by marzak Bektash.
First edition 1979, second edition 1984, publisher: publications of the National Foundation for book, communication, publishing and media (Algiers-) ANEP publications, Dar Al Farabi publishing and distribution (Beirut-Lebanon). It contains 310 pages.
Summary[edit]
In the novel Millennium and a year of nostalgia, fantasy is combined with reality so strongly that you can't separate them.[1] Rather, every attempt to separate them shows uselessness that will lead to the emptiness of the novel from its content. In this novel, both the possible and the impossible wrestle. The reality in the novel is fantasy and fantasy is reality.[2][3]
Boudjedra analyzes history linking the past to the present through what happened in Islamic history through (Mamluk) and what is currently happening in it through mamlukism (developing in new forms), from here, the importance of the prophetic novel, calling for the contemplation of history, was the mirror of any civilization that aspires to renew its glory. The novel A Thousand and a year of nostalgia was chosen by the Arab Writers Union among the list of the hundred Best Arab novels in the history of Arab literature. Although its author wrote it in French.[5]
Rachid boudjedra is an Algerian novelist with a communist-Marxist orientation who writes in Arabic and French, he is one of the leading people in Algerian literature. For 50 years, Rachid boudjedra has written in stories, poetry, novels, theater, correspondence, and Critical Studies. (In French and Arabic) more than forty authors.
