History[edit]

ModulTrade was founded in 2017 by Evgeny Kaplin, Jean Chaanine, Karthikeyan Kaliyaperumal, Fedor Sapronov, Marco Rosso and Alexei Katrich. The launch of the company was the result of a 2016 MIT project in which some of the cofounders participated together. From November 2017 to January 2018, Modultrade launched its token sale MTRc, its crypto-token, for about 12 millions of USD. [1]

Products and services[edit]

Modultrade's product lines available at its website include several electronic, apparel, construction, crypto-based products. Its system of payment involves Smart-contracts between the buyer and the seller which, according to the company, "replicates traditional trade finance instruments (such as letters of credit and bank guarantees) and allows MSME to establish trust into their trade agreements"[2]. It also provides trade-related services, such as insurance, logistic and currency exchange services.

Partnerships[edit]

On January 26 2018, ModulTrade and Yangting Internet Technology, an investment vehicle for Alibaba, announced a strategic partnership aiming to support Alibaba SME customers to expand their global reach.[3][4]

In June 2018, ModulTrade signed agreements with the logistics companies SIMAT (Société ivoirienne de manutention et de transit), SERFIN and ANOPACI (Association Nationale des Organisations Professionnelles Agricoles de Côte d'Ivoire). These agreements were aiming at expanding the company's operations in the African continent while supporting the development of a global market for African SMEs. [5]

The company signed with SolarCoin in July 2018 an agreement which objective was to unite efforts in the development of blockchain based trading networks. The agreement allowed SolarcCoin community to access to ModulTrade’s services by integrating SolarCoin's cryptocurrency, SLR into one of ModulTrade's interface, MT Wallet. [6]

Awards[edit]

ModulTrade has been recognized by CIO Review magazine as one of the Top 20 Most Promising Blockchain Technology Solution Providers 2017. [7] In July 2017 it became a member of Trusted Shops certification program. [8]
