[1][2]Mou Sultana (born 2 July, 1983) is a Bengali singer-songwriter-actress[3] and Irish Chartered Counselling Psychologist. She is one of the first female Bengali Rock musician from India[4]. She is best known for her song Sobujer Finke Rong written by Nachiketa, Lagche by herself, Bangla Bass[5] with Neucleya and for her acting in the film Nil Nirjane by Director Subrata Sen.

Biography[edit]

Raised in Kolkata, she moved to Mumbai in 2003 to further pursue her musical career and she has been a resident in Dublin, Ireland since 2005.[6]. Mou began her career as a classically trained singer and made her first radio appearance at the age of 4 in All India Radio. Her first acting role was as Sally in Anjan Dutta's production of Zee Bangla's Half Chocolate TV series[7][8] in 1999 with Parambrata Chaterjee. This was followed by her first album, Abishkar[9], with Nachiketa in 2000. Mou is best known for her role in the movie Nil Nirjane (Vacation Blues). Her recent collaborations have included the track 'Bangla Bass in 2012[10]', featured in the Star World television programme, the Dewarists[11]

Mou was one of the Top Ten finalist among 85000 participants from all over India in the Channel V Popstar in 2002[12] under four judges Sandeep Chowta, Manish Malhotra, Sushma Reddy and Subha Mudgal where the final five went ahead of Mou and formed Viva the band by Anushka, Pratichee, Mohua and Seema and Neha.

Mou has released Naughty Noughties in 2013 with 10 songs written between 1997 - 2002.

In 2018 Mou Sultana released a controversial series titled Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U) in 2018 [14][15][16][17], which is quartet of four inter-related music videos, one of the first of its kind in Bengali Music[18][19].

Sultana is an acadmic and clinicanho has completed her Bachelors Degree in Psychology with FIrst Class Honours, Masters Degree in Psychotherapy with First Class Honours from University College Dublin, her second Masters Degree with First Class honours in Sociology from University of Limerick, her third Masters Degree in Applied Psychology with First Class Honours from Robert Gordon University, Diploma in Cognitive Behvaioural Therapy and her Doctoral Study in Psychology from School of Medicine University College Dublin in Perinatal Mental Health.
