Shaykh Al-Quran Maulana Muhammad Tahir Panjpiri (February 1916- 31 March 1987 ) was a famous religious scholar from Swabi District.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

He was born in the house of Ghulam Nabi Khan bin Asif Khan on 15 Rabi'ul-Thani 1334 AH corresponding to February 1916 in Panjpir District Swabi. He received his initial education from local scholars. During his student days, he participated in the jihad against the British under the leadership of Fazal Wahid Tarangzai and endured the hardships of imprisonment. Later, he studied interpretation and hadith from Hussain Ali Alwani. Then, on his advice of Alwani, he studied Hadith from Naseeruddin Ghorghashvi. Then agian from Hussain Ali Alwani some parts of Sahaha Sita and learned the method of spiritual education and zikr and azkar. The he learned the books of philosophy and wisdom from Ghulam Rasool Anhi Sharif. Then he reached Darul Uloom Deoband and graduated in 1935.[2][not in citation given][3]

Teachings[edit]

After graduating from education, he taught for one year in Madrasa al-Moorm al-Uloom Galauthi District Bulandshahr on the instructions of Aizaz Ali Amrohi. Then he came back and started teaching at Madrasah Mazhar Al-Uloom (present; Madrasah Arabiya Qiqit al-Qur’an) Mianwali on the orders of Hussain Ali Alwani.[4][5]

Had the blessing of Hajj in the year 1938. There he learned Quran, Hujjat al-Balagha and Abaqat from Ubaidullah Sindhi. From 1938, he became engaged in teaching tafsir and hadith in Panj Pir on the instructions of his teachers.[6][7]

Literary works[edit]

Apart from preaching and teaching, he also did great work for the elimination of polytheism and innovation through writing and compilation. You have written books on every subject including:

Jamiat Isha'at Al-Tawheed wa Al-Sunnah[edit]

He played an important role in the organization of the Jamiat Isha'at Al-Tawheed wa Al-Sunnah and rejection of polytheism and innovation, and was elected as the main Amir of the Jamiat in 1985.[8]

Death[edit]

He died on March 31, 1987, in his area and thousands of people attended his funeral. The funeral prayer were performed by his son Maulana Muhammad Tayyab Tahiri and he was buried in his native graveyard. Muhammad Tayyab Tahiri became his academic successor and was elected as the central Amir of the Jamiat Isha'at Al-Tawheed wa Al-Sunnah. Major Muhammad Aamir is also his son who has held high positions in ISI and IB.[9]
