Early life and education[edit]

Career[edit]
Urban Ecology[edit]
Murry is currently a PhD researcher in Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology at North Carolina State University.[3] Her research examines the impact of light pollution on songbird nestling metabolic health and physical development. She has given many public talks and interviews on her work, including features in Discover magazine[4], WUNC Public Radio,[5] and Spectrum News1.[6] Murry also conducts avian ecology workshops and activities for kids.
Field Safety[edit]
Murry is an advocate for field safety in the natural sciences. After her own experiences as a Black woman working solo in a rural area, she prompted her college department to make car magnets and other field safety gear. In 2022, she co-founded Field Inclusive, a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
Children's book author[edit]
Murry self-published her first book, Why Wolves Howl - a fictional tale about a lone wolf making friends with the moon. Her next book, Sparrow Learns Birds,[7] is the first of a nonfiction children’s nature book series published by Christy Ottaviano Books. Sparrow Learns Birds features a 5-year-old Black girl learning about common backyard birds by sight, sound, and movement.
