Namita Thapar (Pronounced: nuh·mee·taa; born 21 March 1977) is the Executive Director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals.[1] Ltd, Pune where she heads India business. She is a Shark on Shark Tank India, the Indian adaptation of American business reality show[2], and a published author. [3][4][5]
Namita Thapar is also the founder of Thapar Entrepreneurs Academy[6] which provides innovative entrepreneurship education in India. It is a ground breaking and exciting class that transforms individuals into real, confident entrepreneurs.
Namita (Thapar) is also the Managing Partner of Thapar Vision Fund[7] along with Vik Thapar, a sector agnostic early stage investment fund that provides seed funding, participate in follow-on rounds and provide mentorship to early-stage entrepreneurs to aid them in scaling their ventures.
She also serves on the regional board of Duke’s Fuqua School of Business.
Early Life and education[edit]
Namita Thapar was born in a Gujarati family in Pune, India. She is the daughter of Bhavna and Satish Mehta, a first-generation entrepreneur and founder of Emcure Pharmaceuticals.
Namita completed her degree in Commerce from Pune University[8] and is a certified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, she completed her MBA degree from Fuqua School of Business (Duke University, North Carolina) in 2001.[9]
Career[edit]
In 2001, Namita Thapar worked in the California, USA first with GlaxoSmithKline[10] and later with Guidant Corporation[11] (now a part of Abbott Labs) for 6 years in various finance and marketing roles. Post this, she returned to India in 2007 and joined Emcure.
Emcure[edit]
In 2007, Namita Thapar started managing the Finance portfolio as the CFO of Emcure. She played major roles in M&A’s and also forayed into IT to ensure Finance and IT systems integration across geographies. In this process, she built a strong finance and global compliance team. She then moved to handle additional portfolios like HR and domestic marketing. She has played a leading role to get the right data analytics team in place and strengthen automation, introduce new systems and has also ventured into new therapeutic areas. She is an Executive Board Member of Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd and currently heads Emcure’s India business managing 4000 medical representatives pan India over 15 key therapeutic areas. In addition, she is a member of industry forums such as the Young Presidents Organization (Pune). She has spoken at several platforms including the including Economic Times Women’s Conclave, Harvard & IIM Ahmedabad.
Thapar Entrepreneurs Academy[edit]
Namita Thapar is the founder of Thapar Entrepreneurs Academy, that teaches entrepreneurship to individuals. Through the Thapar Entrepreneur Academy, Namita provides the opportunity to go beyond the classroom and explore their entrepreneurial side.[12]
Thapar Vision Fund[edit]
Namita Thapar is a co-founder of Thapar Vision Fund along with Vik Thapar, where they provide seed funds, participate in follow-on rounds on case to case basis, and provide mentorship and guidance to early-stage entrepreneurs to help them in scaling up their vision. They have invested in numerous Indian startups at various stages of growth.[13]

Namita Thapar hosts a women's health youtube channel called ‘Uncondition Yourself with Namita Thapar’ from past 2 years. Women’s Health continues to be a topic discussed in hushed tone with irrational stigmas and taboos associated with it. With this background, she emerged with the idea of India’s first of its kind talk show on Women’s Health. The format of the show involves Namita speaking with doctors and patients who have experienced and overcome a health disorder. Several celebrities have also graced the platform and shared their journeys on the show, discussing about public awareness on Women’s Health. She and her guests have talked about Diabetes in Women, Endometriosis, safe abortion, anemia, breast cancer, hyper tension, bone and joint health, menopause, menstrual disorder, body shaming, infertility, depression and anxiety, skin disorders and cosmetology, thyroid disorder. She has successfully conducted various educational chat shows in her channel collaborating with Doctors like Padma Shri Dr. Ramakant Deshpande[14], Dr. Nozer Sheriar[15], Dr. Biran Pinto[16], Dr. Duru Shah[17], Dr. Kiran Coelho[18], Dr. Jatin Shah[19] and celebrities like Vidhya Balan, Twinkle Khanna, Sonali Bendre, Tahira Kashyap, Kiran Mazumdar and many more.

Shark Tank[edit]
Namita Thapar had judged the Indian adaptation of the American reality show- Shark Tank India Season 1[21] telecasted in Sony Entertainment Network[22], where she was among the core jury members. Namita has emerged as a popular judge for empathy and soft corner, especially for women entrepreneurs. She has been trolled and loved equally for the show and has gained a lot of popularity and affection from various households around the nation.

Namita Thapar appeared in a talk show hosted by comedian Kapil Sharma famously known as The Kapil Sharma Show[23]- Season 2, (episode 225), where she talked about her past life experience, experiences in Shark tank India and many more.
She collaborated with famous YouTubers like Tanmay Bhat, Rohan Joshi, Sahli Shah and Author Chetan Bhagat[24] sharing her personal and professional life journey experiences and experience as shark with them in their podcast.
She also appeared in Kaun Banega Crorepati, Season 13[24] hosted by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan. She expressed her liking for Bollywood, which is well known to her followers and expressed her obsession towards 80’s and 90’s movies.
