Nellore is a city located on the banks of Penna River,[3] in Nellore district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[4] It serves as the headquarters of the district, as well as Nellore mandal and Nellore revenue division.[5] It is the fourth most populous city in the state. It is at a distance of 700 km from Visakhapatnam and about 170 km north of Chennai, Tamil Nadu and also about 380 km east-northeast of Bangalore, Karnataka. Nellore City accounts for 65% of the urban population of Nellore District.
