Nicodemus Abel (born August 15, 1967) is a plant geneticist.[1] Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India,[citation needed] he is a breeder of casuarina, teak, and other tree species.[2]

Education and career

He completed both Bachelor's (1987) and Masters (1989) in Botany from Madras Christian College. In 1990, he joined the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India as a Research Assistant. While working there he managed to complete his Ph.D. in Botany from University of Madras and was promoted as Research Officer. Later in 1997, he competed and got selected in the Scientist examination conducted by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and was posted as Scientist in the Division of Seed Technology before moving to the Division of Genetics and Tree Breeding[2] and working exclusively in Tree improvement and breeding programs of Casuarina and Teak.[3][4][5] Besides being a Scientist, he is an academician, being a recognized research supervisor in FRI[6] and Bharathiar University[7][8] for the award for M.Phil. and Ph.D programs.

Nicodemus Abel is married and has two sons. He resides in Vadavalli, Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu, India.
