OConnect is a Chinese B2B cross-border e-commerce service provider. As an offline business affiliate of OSell Group,[5][2] it specialises in setting up exhibition warehouses and organising trade fairs. OConnect works to provide a space for buyers to physically view products they have chosen online[5] so that they can satisfy themselves before placing orders. Once orders are placed, they are shipped quickly from local warehouses. OConnect hopes to change prespectives about Chinese products by bringing high-tech and quality brands abroad.[6] In due course, it hopes to bring, highly competitive world products to Chinese consumers.[6] Its focuse is on small and medium sized enterprises[5] which constitute 80% of its trading volume.[7]
Business model[edit]
OConnect works on the "Internet + Overseas Warehouse 2.0" model.[8] It works by acting as an intermediary between global retailers and Chinese suppliers.[9] Parties communicate via the OSell app and retailers can then view their chosen products at their local sample showrooms.[9] On finalising the deal, orders are shipped directly from local warehouses. Its model include providing integrated solutions to purchasing including third-party logistics and payment collection services.[9]
History[edit]
Founded in 2015, OConnect was incorporated in Hong Kong as a private limited company in January 2016.[1] In May 2015, it established its first showroom in Moscow, Russia. The 2,000sqm showroom also has a demonstration area for products and rooms for negotiations, workshops and conferences.[10] The opening was accompanied by a O2O Internet Trade Fair and orders worth about 0.4 billion rubles were placed.[11] In September, the showroom saw the Zhaoqing/Moscow Cross-Border E-Commerce High-Quality Product Show where manufacturers from Zhaoqing showcased their products and deals worth US$ 30 million were reached. In October, it hosted the OSell co-organised Russia-China E-Commerce summit at its showroom.[12]
In March 2016, it signed an agreement to open a showroom in Prague, Czech Republic for Chinese products with a reciprocated showroom for Czech products in Chongqing, China. To provide an entry point to the Middle Eastern and North African markets, in May 2016 it launced its flagship showroom in Dubai Investment Park, Dubai, UAE.[7] With a floor area of 15,000 square feet, this showroom will extend both logistical and financial assistance to the customers.[7] According to Kevin Fenn, its founder, this showroom would help increase trade volumes by 19% and partner network by 25%.[7]
As a way into the North American market, in late June 2016, OConnect launced its exhibition warehouse in Toronto, Canada.[9] Another warehouse in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) is also planned.[13] These investments will create some 30 jobs and are worth $3.5 million.[13] The company will also help solve financial, logistical and local access problems for all parties.[9] On 30 June 2016, it opened a flagship exhbibition warehouse in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.[14] All products showcased here are examined by Vietnamese customs for their quality and authenticity.[14] A second warehouse in Hanoi, Vietnam is planned to open later this year.[14]
Showrooms[edit]
OConnect plans to construct 50 interactive showrooms in Asia, Africa and Europe which would showcase some 150,000 product samples.[15] As of July 2016, it has showrooms in Moscow, Russia (textiles and household goods);[16] Toronto, Canada;[9] Dubai, UAE (household goods); Warsaw, Poland (home supplies and textiles)and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. By the end of 2016, it hopes to have an additional 20 showrooms established across the world.
