OSell is a Chinese cross-border e-commerce group[7] with its headquarters in the south western city of Chongqing[2] in the Yuzhong District.[3] All global operations are conducted through its office in Hong Kong.[8] A subsidiary of DinoDirect China Limited,[3] it includes a B2B platform[9] and a trade fairs and exhibitions concern under the Global OConnect brand. The Group's original B2B2C approach[10] is built on China's popularity for cross border B2B e-commerce as well as its position as the world's largest e-commerce market.[11] It considers itself "the Chinese supply chain partner" of overseas buyers.[12]

OSell aims to be a one-stop solution for commerce with a network of warehouses and display centres throughout the world while allowing manuacturers to sell directly to retailers and bypassing the middle man.[13] Virtually everything from clothes to jewellery to consumer electronics to security items can be sourced through its platform.[9] In addition, to promoting e-commerce, the Group organises and co-organises related forums, summits and conferences such as the China-Russia e-Commerce Summit held in Moscow, Russia in 2015.[14]

The Group was established by Kevin Fenn in 2010.[4]

Focus[edit]

The Group is focused on promoting products of Chinese origin.[15] Its plans including building local experience centers, warehouses and after-sale services in cities along the "The Belt and Road" (also known as One Belt, One Road).[5] In 2013, the Chinese Government first mooted the concept of "one belt and one road" as a network of overland corridors across Central and Western Asia, connecting China and Europe.[5][16][17] This concept would also include a maritime route linking China with Southeast Asia as well as Europe and Africa.[16][17] Local experience centers are places where prospective buyers can physically view products before ordering them. Additionally, strategically placed warehouses would facilitate logistics and speed up delivery. It also plans to focus on the concept of "two parks for two countries." This concept involves building two showrooms: one in China and the other in the foreign country, so as to showcase each others products.

History[edit]

OSell Group was established by Kevin Fenn in 2010. With additional funding, within two years it had established an office in Dubai, UAE.[1] By mid 2013, its catalog had the names of over 53,000 manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers from China with some 30 million items listed.[9] The Group is supported by the local government.[7]

Over the next three years, the company expanded by acquiring and partnering with other companies During this time, it also co-organised events promoting e-commerce in target countries. A three day exhibition connecting Russian retailers and Chinese manudacturers was held in October-November 2014 in Gongguan, China.[18] To help expand in Russia and provide faster delivery options, in December 2014, it acquired the logistics and supply chain management company, TDPro.[5] In April 2015, along with Alibaba, it represented China at the first BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Expert Dialogue on e-Commerce held in Moscow, Russia. Such dialogues are aimed at creating conditions for free e-commerce amongst BRICS countries.[19] During the same month, it signed an agreement with UnionPay International enabling its overseas customers to pay using the Company's international cards.[20] Later in October, it co-organised the China-Russia e-Commerce Summit in Moscow, Russia.[14] By the end of 2015, it was one of six key entities in the cross border e-commerce market in China.[21]

In March 2016, an agreement to construct "two parks for two countries" was signed between OSell and the Czech Trade and Tourism Alliance.[22] As part of its European strategy, in May 2016, it acquired the French company Comex.[23] A month later, the China-Poland Online Silk Road Economic Cooperation Forum was organised in Warsaw, Poland as part of an official Chinese government visit to the country.[24]

Relations with the Chinese government[edit]

OSell is one of four e-commerce companies to be ratified by the Ministry of Commerce.[25] In April 2016, it was officially recognised by Premier Li at Boao Forum for Asia’s Annual Conference.[25]
