Oldcastle are a fictional football team that appeared in numerous comic strips of DC Thomson and also IPC Fleetway. It also appeared in the Safest Hands in Soccer, in the Bristish comic Champ in 1983-84 in the We are United strip and the Football Picture Story Monthly. Club's name was reference to Newcastle United.
History
In 1969-70 the club appeared in the Bristish comic Victor and The Team Nobody Knew strip, playing in the First Division.
Oldcastle is mentioned in the Bobby of the Blues story in Scorcher in the early 1970s battling with famous Everpool.
As mentioned in the We are United strip Oldcastle was located in Midlands, England. Prior to 1977 the club won the FA cup with Jimmy Rockwell as manager (Safest Hands in Soccer strip).
Olcastle finished 4th in the 1983/84 First Division, losing only two games at home. Alvin Watson was the team's anchor and England international, first choice in centre-half. Mark Woodhen was a dangerous striker with 28 goals in 83/84. Olcastle were an opponent for opponent for Riverton United, playing in the First Divsion in 1984/85. In 1995 they won the title in the United universe.
