History

Villw were an original memeber of the Football League which was formed in 1888. It was the only club by 1983/84 that never been outside the First Division (like Arsenal). It was located in the Midlands.

The club won the UEFA Cup in 1971 and 6 league titles. In 78/79 they played at Wembley in the League Cup final but lost to almighty United with 3-2 (Connely scored both goals). Leston Villa were a tough opponent for opponent for Riverton United, playing in the First Divsion in 1983/84, starting really well topping the table and aiming at their 7th title. During that winning run Tony Saunders was the top scorer of the league with 1 goal per game. Then they lost 6 out of 7 games to end up mid-table by March 1984. They had a great run in 84/85 finished 5 points behind champions Southpool.

They started very strong in 85/86 being on top of the league at the end of September.

In 1986/87 young Bob Bancs was Villa's biggest hope (signed from United in summer 1985), but the England manager picked United's Jimmy Grant instead for the national team.

Leston Villa was last mentioned in 1988 in a United story in FPSM.
