Onlia Holding Incorporated is a Canadian insurance company known for offering home and auto coverage.[1][2]
History[edit]
The creation of Onlia began in 2017 and it officially launched on February 10, 2018.[3] The company is a joint venture between two organizations with previous experience in the insurance industry: Fairfax Financial, a Canadian holding company that owns Verassure Insurance[4], and Achmea, the largest insurance group in the Netherlands.[5][6]
Onlia’s goal was to make Canadian roads safer with an innovative, new insurance company that rewarded safe driving habits rather than penalizing bad behaviour.[7][8]
In February 2019, Onlia officially entered the insurance business officially with car coverage and its first advertising campaign.[7] In the same year, Onlia partnered with a non-profit organization called Switchback Cyclery to create the Light Up the Night event for road safety.[9]
In 2020, Onlia added homeowner’s insurance to its offerings. When the pandemic hit, they waived premiums for the month of May.[2][10]
In April 2021, Onlia integrated AI software by FRISS to analyze potential risks, reduce fraud and speed up their claims process.[11][12] Onlia provides insurance to over 10,000 customers and offers safety education in the form of studies, blogs and events. [13]
