PartsBase is a United States-based online marketplace, functioning as a business-to-business parts locator service[2] for the aviation, aerospace and defense industries.[3][4] It is owned and operated by PartsBase, Inc., headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. It was briefly traded publicly on NASDAQ (PRTS),[5] but as of 2017 is currently privately held.[5][6]

PartsBase, Inc. was founded in 1996 in Houston, Texas.[3] The company was originally known as Partsbase.Com, Inc., and changed its name to PartsBase, Inc. in July 2001.[1] In 2002, PartsBase, Inc. went private, and has remained a private company ever since.[7] In 2008, Lockheed Martin partnered with PartsBase and renewed its membership to the database each subsequent year. Other major clients include Boeing, Bombardier, Airbus, United Airlines, AAR, the Lufthansa Group, JetBlue, Honeywell, Raytheon,[8] and the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.[9][10]
In 2000, the company had 2,500 suppliers, containing over 23 million line items.[11] As of 2015, the number of suppliers had grown to 7,500[12] and direct quotes surpassed $1 billion.[13] About 125 suppliers each received over $5 million each in quotes.[12]
Operations[edit]
PartsBase was developed to provide an interface "for aviation parts buyers and sellers to buy and sell new, repaired or overhauled aviation parts; list products, services and catalogs; and hold auctions for slow-moving and excess inventory."[11] It also provides advertising and search engine marketing services.[11] As of 2016, PartsBase listed 115 million line items, received 2 million page views per month,[12] and processed 600,000 electronic Requests for Quote (RfQs) per month.[13] Over 34,000 part searches were carried out per day.[12][14]
The PartsBase database lists aircraft, helicopter, Airbus, Boeing, Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, and Embraer parts, and other parts needed for aviation and aircraft repair.[14] The database is currently used by 7,500 suppliers and 30,000 end users in 159 countries.[12] North America is the largest market with about 66% of customers, followed by 16% in Europe and 8% in Asia.[14]
In 2015, PartsBase released Quick Quote, an email-based system that sends information on RFQs to customers.[13] The system monitors the database and alerts companies when it receives specific information on RFQs.[15] Clients can attach files such as traceability, certifications, and pictures, potentially shortening the bidding process.[14]
