Pasha Kerimov(Azerbaijani: Paşa Əli oğlu Kərimov) is an Azerbaijani doctor of philology sciences, researcher of literature history, textual scientist, deputy director of ANAS Institute of Manuscripts, head of the department of Multidistiplinary manuscripts and published books.
Biography[edit]
Pasha Ali oglu Karimov was born in Baku in 1959. In 1982 he graduated from the philological faculty of Azerbaijan State University (current Baku State University). Since 1982 he works at the Institute of Manuscripts named after Mahammad Fuzuli of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. In 1991 Pasha Karimov defended his PhD thesis on "The textual research and scientific-critical text of Alijan Qovsi Tabrizi’s "Divan"" and in 2012 the doctoral thesis on "Azerbaijani Turkish poetry of the 17th century". During the years 1999-2003 he worked as a scientific secretary at the Institute of Manuscripts. 2003–2011 years he was a deputy director for scientific works at the same Institute. Between the years 2011-2014 he was an executive director of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS. Since 2014 he has been a deputy director, at the same time, he has been a head of the department of multidisciplinary manuscripts and printed books since 2015. He is a member of the scientific-artistic council of the Translation Centre near the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic. He is a chief of the dissertation council on religious studies which has functioned at the Institute of Manuscripts since 2011. He is a member of the editorial staff of "Azerbaijan", "Multiculturalism" and "Philological questions" journals. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.[1] [2]
Pasha Karimov is engaged in the philological and textual research of the classical Turkish literary monuments and preparing the publication of these materials. He is the author of more than 20 books and nearly 200 articles For the first time, he published the Turkish divans of the Azerbaijani poets of the 14-17th centuries such as Yusif bey Ustajlu, Sadiq bey Afshar, Murtazagulu khan Shamlu, Vahid Qazvini, Qovsi Tabrizi, Majzub Tabrizi, Tasir Tabrizi and others, the poet of the 19th century Mirza Ismayil Qasir’s poems and other Turkish divans. He achieved to bring the copies of many manuscripts having an important role in the studying of the Azerbaijani history to the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS. As a result of researches he conducted in the several libraries of the libraries, he found and studied the works of the unknown authors in the Azerbaijani literature. In his monographs named "The Azerbaijani Turkish lyrics of the 17th century" (Baku: "Nurlan", 2011), "The Azerbaijani Turkish poetry of the 17th century" (Baku: "Nurlan", 2012), "Sadiq bey Sidqi’s activities in Turkish" (Baku: "Elm ve tehsil", 2013) Pasha Karimov comprehensively researched the position of the Azerbaijani poetry of the 17th century in the history of literature, its dissemination, history of the research and publication, sphere of subject, the inclinations of traditions and innovations, peculiarities of the genre and form. Looking through the topic of patriotism, social motives, a reflection of the ideological struggle, historical events in the poetry of that period, several themes that appeared in the literature for the first time, the influence of folklore, Navai and Fuzuli’s influences in poetry, literary relations of Azerbaijan with Ottoman, Central Asia and other Turkish, Islamic states and "indian style" in poetry, he scientifically evaluated them.[3]
Pasha Karimov gives lectures to the undergraduates of the Institute of Manuscripts of ANAS of the academic year 2016-2017.
He participated in the international conferences held in Istanbul, Ankara, Tashkent, Ashgabat, Tabriz, Kabul, Mazari-Sharif, Herat and other cities and in the Azerbaijani Cultural Days organized in 2011 in the Vatican and Rome in the President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva’s initiative.
In 2009 Pasha Karimov was awarded the Presidential Scholarship for one year. In 2010 he was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Presidium of ANAS. In 2012 he was worthy of the award "Money order for the service to the Turkish literature" instituted by the Turkish Waqf. According to the order of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev signed in November 3, 2015, Pasha Karimov was awarded the Tereggi medal for his services in the development of the Azerbaijani science.
