Paulami Mazumder (born 10 June 1992) is an Indian playback singer and actor.[1]. She sings predominantly in Hindi and Bengali, but has also performed in various other Indian languages. She has appeared in the television shows Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Jhoome Nache Gaaye (DD National), and Asia's Singing Superstar, and has also worked with UTV Bindas (Big Switch, Dadagiri, Date Trap), MTV Roadies (Face off) and Channel V (Dare to Date).
As an actor, she has appeared in the Indian TV shows Tu Aashiqui, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka, Dev, and Crime Patrol.
Early life
Mazumder was born on 10 June 1992 in Kolkata, West Bengal in a Bengali family. Her father is a chartered accountant and her mother is a school teacher. She grew up in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She completed her schooling at the St. Philomena Convent High School in Nashik, Maharashtra and later graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mass Media and Communication from SNDT Women's University in Mumbai, Maharashtra. While pursuing her education, she worked as an intern (Junior field reporter) with one of India’s leading digital news media, The Times of India managed by the Times group. According to her she "was an up to par student, but cared more about music" and her parents decided to train her professionally.
Growing up, she listened to Pop, Fusion and Sufi music. She idolized musicians like Sunidhi Chauhan, Jennifer Lopez and Toni Braxton and enjoyed listening to Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Arijit Singh.
Early career
Mazumder received her musical training at the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Music Academy (SMA). Mazumder's professional musical career began when she participated in the contemporary reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa in 2011, and was among one of the top 10 finalists. She sang jingles for advertisements for global companies including LG Corporation. Following her stint, she started singing remixes and cover versions. In 2016, she participated in another reality singing competition Asia's Singing Superstar and earned a lot of appreciation from the judges and the audience. Afterwards, she chose to freelance and continued working as an independent artist[2]
Personal life
In 2021, Mazumder married Abhirup Mandal, a scientist working in the field of drug delivery and biomaterials in the United States. Mazumder currently resides in Texas, United States. Mazumder says apart from being a singer, she is an influencer, an entertainer, a skillful chef, a movie freak and an entrepreneur. She has also expressed her interest to sing at the Madison Square Garden, New York.
Career
Mazumder's debut single, Dimple Wali Girl was released in July 2018 by Sony Music India. In May 2019, her first web-series title track, My Name Is Sheela was released by Eros Now. She worked on her second single with Amit Mishra, Aayi Re Holi[3] [4] which was released by B4U Music on March 2020.
Mazumder is one of the few Indian singers who has shared the stage with leading playback singers including Udit Narayan, Ali Haider, Mika Singh and Shaan. She has also performed for various renowned associations including Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) in the United States.
