Perambur Ayyappan Temple is an Ayyappan Temple located in Perambur,[1][2] in Chennai district of peninsular India, with the geographical coordinates of 13°06′39.1″N 80°14′44.0″E / 13.110861°N 80.245556°E
(i.e., 13.110850°N, 80.245550°E) at an altitude of about 33 m above the mean sea level.
The temple is built in traditional Kerala style of architecture. Ayyappan Swamy blesses the devotees in a posture of about 2 ft high, sitting on Srichakram with Chinmuthra. Ghee abishek pooja is done daily. White pongal is offered to the devotees as Prasad in this temple.[3]
To visit the Sabarimala Ayyappan temple in Kerala and to have darshan of Swamy, every year on the first day of the month of Karthikai, every devotee wears a chain with Ayyappan dollar and fasts for 41 consecutive days. As Ayyappa devotees travel from many parts of India, on the first day of the month of Karthikai, Ayyappa devotees wear chains with Ayyappan dollars and start fasting at the Perambur Ayyappan Temple also to visit Sabarimala Temple. A structure of 18 steps found in this Ayyappan temple implies the system which conveys to us the principles that represent the yogic stages that we must realize in our lives to attain the divine state. The following are the yogic stages: Birth is impermanent, Shankya Yoga, Karma Yoga, Wisdom Yoga, Sannyasi Yoga, Meditation Yoga, Gnana Vignana Yoga, Atsara Brahma Yoga, Rajavidya Rajaguhya Yoga, Vibhuti Yoga, Visvarupa Darshan Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Seshatra Vibhaga Yoga, Gunatraya Vibhaga Yoga, Purushottama Yoga, Taivasurasambat Vibhaga Yoga, Chratatharaya Vibhaga Yoga and Moksha Sannyasa Yoga.[4]
